What is the difference between ABRA and BNI/LeTip/Other Networking Groups?
That is a big question! The primary differences are in culture. We don’t feel like
any of the other groups are “competition,” they are just different, with different
features, benefits and cultures. We have a chart (clickable link) where you can
make a direct comparison, but keep in mind that features are not all there is to
it. If you are someone who needs structure and accountability to be successful,
then you should look into more structured groups like BNI or LeTip. If you are more
self directed and are looking for a community of like minded entrepreneurs who want
to help each other succeed, then ABRA is a better choice for you. The best way to
decide is to visit a chapter and see for yourself.
What does it cost to be a member?
They say that when you compete on price, quality doesn’t matter, but when you compete
on quality – price doesn’t matter. At $395 for one year (payment plans are available),
we’re not the “cheapest” nor are we the most expensive. One thing for sure, we don’t
believe in hidden fees that nickel and dime members to death. Some groups have meeting
room fees, mandatory education meetings, registration fees, fines - and more, which
drive the overall cost of membership up. These costs can double or triple your investment.
At ABRA your annual fee of $395 is all you pay (payment plans cost a little more).
There are no hidden fees, plus members get discounts to events, like our mixers.
*we have a $45/monthly payment plan option also
What does the membership dues go towards?
ABRA has dedicated resources to ensure continued success with members, chapters
and regions. A portion of the dues collected are allocated for our Regional Directors,
Accounting, Marketing and Management Support Teams. In addition, ABRA is continuously
improving the dynamic website for our members. Software updates, Internet & Banking
Regulatory compliance standard, name-badges, marketing and collateral materials
also attribute to ABRA expenses. We wish to maintain our competitively low prices,
while maintaining a high level of quality for all members.
Do I get anything for referring someone who becomes a member?
Yes. We believe in saying “thank you” to the people who help us grow. Members receive
a one month extension on their membership for each new member they refer.
Can I be a member of another networking group besides ABRA?
Yes. In fact, we highly encourage becoming a member of multiple networking groups.
The more people you know, the more people you can help and refer. Here are some
to consider:
|
|
|
- Chambers of Commerce
- Meet-ups
- Educational organizations like Toastmasters
- Service Organizations
- Online social networking (Facebook, Twitter etc)
|
|
We also suggest you attend as many educational events as you can afford. Not only
will you grow yourself personally, but you will meet others who are interested in
being the best they can be as well.

Who decides if I get to be a member of a chapter?
The leadership team (President, Vice-president and Secretary) have the final say.
How do I pay?
All payments are made online. If your company will be paying for a one year membership
on your behalf and they cut paper checks, special arrangements can be made. Of this
is your situation, let the Chapter Leader know when you’re ready to join the chapter.
While I am a member, does ABRA allow me to be a member of another one-person-
per-profession group?
If you are an existing member of another one-person-per-profession group, it might
be a good idea to find out what their rules are. ABRA does not have a policy prohibiting
this, but other organizations do. It is up to you to decide how this might impact
your membership in another organization.
Is ABRA a one-person-per-profession networking group?
Yes, but nor from a place of scarcity, more from a place keeping confusion to a
minimum. We believe there is plenty of business for everyone, however having more
than one person in the group who is a Realtor, for example, can be confusing to
the other members.
Am I required to give referrals to everyone in my chapter?
We don’t expect you to ditch your existing relationships in favor of people in your
ABRA chapter. Relationships take time and we’d like you to think of your ABRA chapter
as your new community. We would much prefer you wait, form relationships and give
good solid referrals rather than “duty” leads which often lead to frustration instead
of business for the person on the receiving end.
As a member, can I visit other chapters?
Yes! We encourage you to visit other chapter and see how they do things! If your
profession isn’t represented you are free to visit any chapter, network and form
relationships. If your profession is represented and you are going to be an officer
of another chapter it is a great idea to see how other chapters are run. Whether
or not you will be allowed to promote your business during the 30 second elevator
pitch section is up to the leadership of that chapter.
I am not a member yet. How many chapters can I visit?
You are allowed to visit ABRA Live! meetings twice. At that point you will be asked
to decide whether or not you are ready to become a member. If you’re not, you can’t
attend any more ABRA Live! meetings until you are ready to become a member, however
you are more than welcome at our mixers and educational events.
What is the attendance policy?
We get that “life happens!” You may be absent twice during a 6 month period. If
you send someone to represent your business in your place you are not counted as
absent. It is the responsibility of each individual chapter to enforce the attendance
policy.
How long does an ABRA Live! meeting last?
An ABRA Live! meeting lasts approximately 90 minutes.
What happens during an ABRA Live! meeting?
We suggest you visit one to find out, however the following elements are in our
agenda
|
|
|
- Open networking
- Call to order
- Event announcements
- Kudos and testimonials
- 30 second “Elevator Pitches”
- Member Spotlight (a member gives a 10 minute presentation about their business)
- Masterminding
|
|
To really understand the dynamics of these elements, please contact a chapter near

I don’t want to be a member. Can I participate in ABRA events?
Yes. You are more than welcome to attend our mixers and training events.
When I become a member, will I receive any training?
Yes. It is our goal to help you become an effective networker as well as a savvy
business person. We present topics that will support you experience in ABRA as well
as help your business to become financially successful. Every other week you will
receive a training topic (Business Booster) in your email. The business booster
is meant to help you in your business and is the topic used for the mastermind discussion
during the ABRA Live! meeting. Additionally we offer live training events periodically
in each region. On demand video training is currently in the works.
Do Chapter Leaders get additional training?
Yes. At present, leaders have the opportunity to attend monthly leadership calls
where a training topic is presented and leaders network and mastermind with each
other.
Does ABRA allow outside speakers?
The ABRA Live! meeting speaking slots are reserved for members of that chapter,
however we are open to outside speakers at our educational events. If you know someone
who has experience as a speaker and who presents topics relevant to entrepreneurs
and business owners, please contact us (clickable link) and provide us with that
person’s name, website, and contact information.
Can I change my networking group to an ABRA group?
We love it when people ask that question! Yes you can. That said, you will have
questions that can’t be answered in an FAQ. We invite you to click here (clickable
link) or callus directly to reach a regional director who can answer your questions
and get the process started.
How do I start my own chapter?
Congratulations! Starting a chapter is an exciting time! We usually start with a
conversation. Click here (clickable link) or call us directly to reach a regional
director who will help you learn more about what is involved.
What makes ABRA unique?
At ABRA, we believe in pushing the edge of what networking in the 21st century really
means. We believe in thinking differently, constantly innovating, using technology,
education and engagement.
What makes ABRA the right networking group for entrepreneurs?
We recognize that you are banking everything on the success of your endeavor. It
may be a dream you started with no money in your garage, it may be part of something
bigger. Not everyone supports your dream. Your family and friends may think you
are crazy and want you to stop. We’re entrepreneurs too. We recognize the tremendous
risk you are taking and we’re committed to helping you realize your hopes and dreams.
We do this by creating and supporting communities of entrepreneurs who actively
work to build each other’s businesses, lift each other up and create abundance through
mutual success, however that looks for each member of the community.
How do I choose the right networking group for me?
Here are some tips for making that decision:
|
|
|
- How often can you expect attend a meeting? Occasionally? Monthly? Every other week?
Weekly?
- Can you adhere to the attendance policy?
- How much are you willing to invest financially?
- Do you want the support of a community?
- Do you need structure and rules to be successful?
- Do you use networking to get business or help others?
- Did I feel pressured to join?
- Did the group offer statistics? If so, can they be verified or are they misleading?
- And most important – do I like and respect the people I met when I visited the group?
|
|
Every networking organization has its own culture. Your best bet is to call a member
of the leadership team AND a member at large and ask them: “How is this group working
for you?” Follow up on any elements that were confusing or seemed unusual to you.
Don’t be so intimidated that you don’t ask the hard questions – the ones you REALLY
wanted to know. When you feel energized and like you fit in, you’ve probably found
the right place to be. Of course there’s more to it that that. To read more about
